North Coast Group AGM

North Coast Group AGM

Postby Chris » 18 Jul 2010, 23:26

North Coast Dexter Group had its AGM at the Park in Uranga Where the group was formed over 20 years ago,you would not think it would be such a sad day.
Our top 3 Chairperson,Secretary,Treasurer.Said they would not stand, I did not know this was about to happen.
Now we have to thank all 3 for the years of service they have put in,most have held one of the top jobs, for 10 years or more and have been involved over the last 20 years,a great effort.
Now you may think we have lots of members go to our meeting but do you know, one vote one stud, that meens only one member of the stud can hold office, that is law and at a group level we can put a little bend in rule, but we will not go there just now.
So when you read the information that comes from meeting we realy only have half the number,if all studs have 2 members.
Now if you take out 6 members that have given 20 years of service and are burned out,not good.
I have worked hard for our Dexter's in our group and would not like to see our group fold.
Fact.
If a group folds, all money and assets go back to dcai.Law no bending, yes you are welcome to think like me but i can not say it.
Now we have some new blood in our Group and we have till the end of July to save North Coast Group.
If you have been thinking about getting involved dont leave it any longer and if you know some one get in there hear.
All the hard work has been done,we just have to grab the steering wheel.

Hi Chris,

Sadly I forgot the date of the meeting so was not there, and had all intention of going.

I too wouldn't like to see the group end and the last two years with all the work getting the dexter beef name out at Primex gives just the start of what could be in roads with our beef in the North Coast.

I believe it's a good rule not to have two people from the same stud hold office and have seen committees in the past totally manipulated by just two people in the same family so it's a good rule IMO. I didn't know about the rule as I had thought that two people from the same stud were on the committee so that just goes to show eh. ;)

Hopefully some of the new people will jump on the horse (or dexter in this case) and ensure our group continues. I will put my hand up, and hope others do too.

:D Cheers

Vicki

Sorry to hear about your group and office bearers standing down. I do know a lot of promotion groups have run with two members of the same stud on the executive to stop groups from closing. I sincerely hope you can find willing people to stand. Just a note for anyone considering a position it is not hard and is very rewarding when you see your group grow and love their dexters.

On a positive note, here in Tasmania we too had our office bearers wish to stand down amd out of a group of 22 members and three of those have only been members a matter of weeks we were able to fill all the positions and give our hard working retiring office bearers a well earned rest. We all appreciate how much goes into a Promotion Group and how vital it is to have a vibrant group to promote dexters locally.

GOOD LUCK!!

Hi Marg,

Looks like we have a new committee... interesting times ahead as at least two of us haven't been on the committee before.

I put my hand up for Secretary and have sent off the acceptance form so here we go...

Hi Guys

Glad to hear you have managed to form a committee.

Here in Tasmania I have noticed that they nurture potential newcomers putting them on mailing lists, some of them being there for several years before they buy cattle. They email the Newsletter out and try and stay in touch. Email is a wonderful tool. It is pretty low key here and no pressure with everyone being friendly and helpful. Haven't noticed any great rivals yet.

We have also held some Field Days, this gives people a chance to observe and get some hands on but they would not have rung and asked what they think are dumb questions, and boy we have all had those over the years. We have also done some food tasting experiences trying to get markets for our products, with great success at the gourmet type events that are held so regularly here.

I thought about having a rotating Open Farm day once a quarter so that members and newcomers can come, see the cows and get to know if they are what they want. We are going to try this once the weather warms up.

Hope my ideas help a bit and good luck, if you keep persisting it will improve and grow, it just takes time and keeping sight of your passion, DEXTERS!!

Hi Marg,

Yes the open Farm Day is a good idea.

What's the greatest distance (time wise) that your members have to travel to a meeting?
