Cattle duffing

Has anybody heard of cattle duffing our small Dexters, as they are smaller than most breeds it would/nt be hard to load or coax them away from their paddock. Can the NLIS TAGS be cut off an animals ear and then reused on another animal, I have wondered about this but hav/nt tried it, (remember fine cotton)or should we return to branding our animals ,which I am not a fan of, let me Know if you have come across cattle duffing.

Hi, from time to time we hear of stock thefts, but not Dexters. I don't think Dexters would be the choice of thieves, who would probably want bigger return for their efforts, and/or something a little less conspicuous in a mob of commercial cattle. We've thought about re-applying a NLIS tag that tore out in the bush but the pin won't push through.

We have yards on a main road and we don't live on site so we have to use other means to deter would-be rogue barbeque or hangi hosts. We never leave our mobile ramp attached to the race, it's hidden from the road, and we remove several bolts to disable it. We almost never leave stock in the yard overnight, and the front gate is locked, ... with a piddling lock but the extra time required to get into the property would mean tresspassers are at greater risk of being seen.

Fine Cotton pre-dated DNA.
Cheers,
Margaret
